FPC Missions
The Mexico Mission
The adult Mexico Mission Team began in 1992 with five members teaming up with FPC of Florence, SC. For the next five years, the team built three-room homes out of cinder blocks, mortar and concrete for needy families in Mexico.
Beginning in 1998, First Presbyterian Church formed its own construction team led by Howard Barnard (group leader) and George Lack (construction foreman). In 2000, medical teams from FPC began joining the annual week-long mission trip to provide much needed medical treatment for the families in Mexico. That year, John Schlatter assumed the position as construction foreman. Then in 2001, the mission extended to two weeks in order to build a second home that trip.
After the summer of 2006, FPC will have built a total of twenty homes in Mexico! More than 400 FPC members have participated in providing these homes to the people of Mexico.

GIVING BACK AT CHRISTMAS
OPERATION SANTA
December 20-22
Students pick out, wrap, and deliver gifts to needy families in our community. Adults, your help is needed in this wonderful event. You’ll get to know the young people in our church and also help children in our community. Anyone wishing to contribute to Dr. Wilkes’ discretionary fund will help support this great mission project. For more information, contact Ansel Talbert at 448-4496, ext. 40.
ADOPT A CHRISTMAS CHILD
Share in the Christmas spirit by helping bring Christmas to over 300 local needy children. We can give you the information of a child who needs your help, and you may purchase and wrap clothing and toys for your child, or simply give a gift to FPC’s Christmas Fund and Santa’s helpers will do all the work. Please call Todd Harms at 448-4496 to make this Christmas special for our community’s children.
CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING
Sunday, December 16, 2007
The help and support provided by the Christmas Joy Offering assists retired servants of the church, those encountering serious financial difficulty, and deserving racial ethnic students to succeed and excel in Presbyterian racial ethnic schools.
HABITAT OFFERING
Sunday, December 23, 2007
With your help, more deserving families will be “home” for Christmas by this time next year. Our Christmas Eve offering for Habitat will be used to build Habitat Houses for people who need a helping hand to live in a decent house. It was said of Jesus, who was born in a manger, “He hath nowhere to lay his head,” so we provide home in celebration of His birth.
SPONSOR A WOMAN, CHILD OR FAMILY THROUGH CASA
The holiday season is a special and exciting time. However, for battered women and their dependent children, it can be a source of great pain. There may exist the temptation to return home, simply because she cannot afford to provide Christmas or Hanukkah gifts for her children. Citizens Against Spouse Abuse (CASA) invites you to give a special gift this year by sponsoring a woman, child, or family for the holidays or by making a cash contribution in honor of friends or family members. Cards acknowledging your gift will be sent to your loved one! Sponsor forms are available at the church office. For more information, call 626-7595.
