Programs & Ministries

Christian Education
We believe that all Christians are on a life journey of faith. We are "on the move" -- growing to maturity in our relationship with God, learning more about who God is and who we are as God's own, and discovering the courage to doubt and question. In this way we grow in knowledge and understanding, so we will be disciples. At the First Presbyterian Church we ascribe to these truths. Currently, our Christian Education Committee, working with the Adult Education committee, Youth Committee, Children's Committee, Singles Committee and staff are strengthening our education ministry with opportunities for growth and study. FPC offers four primary areas through which people can further their walk with God:

• Religious Studies Bible, church and related histories, meditation and prayer, doctrines of faith.
• Life Concerns Opportunities to learn about and discuss issues that make life difficult and address ways to deal with them in a positive manner.
• Enrichment Classes Studies designed to broaden our view of the beauty of a creative God and his creative children; to deepen our understanding and appreciation of the human condition.
Resource Library Bibles, commentaries, histories, writing of the Church fathers, teaching and devotional resources, Christian living, maps, charts, reconstructions, videos, and periodicals.
Classes are offered throughout the week and every Sunday morning from 10:00 – 10:45 AM for ages 2 through adults.

Singles & Young Adults Ministry
The singles ministry is one of the fastest growing areas in our church. Each week, we offer Sunday school classes and our Monday night Connections dinner and program. There are also opportunities for movies, dinner outings and other times to get together with friends.
Our Single Adult Ministry is for you if you are:
Looking for Christian friends
Looking for fun things to do
Looking to grow in your faith
Looking to be involved
Connections meets every Monday night at 6 PM for dinner followed by a program. This program consists of speakers, small group discussions, and book discussions on a variety of subjects from relationships to community involvement. It is a ministry of our church for our church and our community.
We have three different Sunday school classes each week to help meet the needs of all singles and young adults:

Abundant Life Ministry
Abundant Life Ministry and the parish nurse and team work together, with God's guidance to facilitate the development of a health ministry, in co-operation with church members, church leaders, the community, local agencies, and hospitals.  The team consists of members who are interested in, and acknowledge the church's role in health and healing and in maintaining and promoting this role.  This team works together to identify the health needs and concerns of the congregation, and to plan and implement programs promoting wellness.

The parish nurse and team focus on a "whole person" approach to wellness and healing, believing that wholeness involves harmony among mind, body, and spirit.  Parish nursing is based on the biblical concept of wholeness as expressed by the words "shalom" in the Old Testament, and "peace" in the New Testament ... well being, health, happiness, and harmony.

The parish nurse works in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention primarily by planning, developing, and implementing programs of interest to church members and community.  Such things as CPR classes, exercise classes, blood drives, BP screening, referral to community resources, listening, loving go on within the ministry.

Another area of focus is hospital visits and visits to homebound members and friends of the church.  The parish nurse and team work to keep in mind always, the church mission - "striving to make new disciples for Jesus Christ and to meet the spiritual needs of those who have already come to know him" by reaching out to comfort, console, strengthen, teach and encourage.

Divorce Care. Part seminar, part support group workshop, this is a new and ongoing event at FPC. Topics are presented by experts in their field thru videos,  followed by group discussion with facilitators on hand and using a workbook to provide guidelines.  Each session is self-contained and participants may join at any time.  These workshops are built on biblical concepts and is Christ central.  The workbook contains a section for continued Bible study between classes.  The only cost for the class is a $15.00 fee for workbook purchase. Future plans include an ongoing grief program for those who have suffered a  loss of a loved one, a Marriage Enrichment Program, and a Positive Parenting Program.  For additional information, please contact the church office or email Todd Harms at tharms@mbfpc.com
