Worship Opportunities

Catching Faith one Lifesaver at a Time… A “Parenting in the Pews” Opportunity

I once heard someone say that as a little child, very little of what happened in worship was meaningful for him. He liked the music, or most of it anyway, and he liked seeing the babies. He knew some of the stories already and liked a lot of them.

But, what about all the words and motions that went over his head?

Being a typical little kid, he’d get squirmy in spite of his best efforts. Having a typical well-prepared mom, she’d open her purse and break out the Lifesavers. It was only years later as an adult that he came to realize what was really going on in that pew. Week by week, month by month, he ate less and less Lifesavers and understood more and more about what was going on,  and needed more and more of what went on, too. He “caught” his parents’ faith and love for God and of communal worship, he says, “one Lifesaver at a time.”

Our hope is that your child will catch your faith, with or without Lifesavers, but definitely side by side with you, the most influential role models your child will ever have.

Children's Church

Up through their second grade year, they are introduced to “Big Church” by sharing a few parts of worship with our congregation before heading out to their own “Children’s Church.” Then as third graders, they “graduate” and stay with you for the full service. During that third grade year, utilize that special hour together in worship to share an appreciation for and understanding of the hymns and responses, the scripture and sermon, the prayers and litanies, that have brought us together through the generations.

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP BULLETINS . . . designed especially for our younger worshippers, give more detailed information to make it easier for children to follow along during the service. While you worship together, point out the words you’re saying and hearing, hold the hymnals together while you sing, and share God’s gifts as the offering plate is passed. Located at the entrances to our sanctuary, children's bulletins are available for ages 3 - 6 & ages 7 - 12.
