18 Apr Hold That Thought… Lots of Love
Our congregation is once again to be commended for being most generous. In the last few weeks we have received two Love Offerings. The first was to express our gratitude to Cam Thomas and his family for their faithful service to our church. As Associate Pastor for the last four years, Cam demonstrated a deep love for Christ and for the people of our community. As a farewell gift, we gave over $4200 to help the Thomas’ family make a positive transition to their new ministry at Topsail Presbyterian Church, NC.
The other special offering was to meet a specific need of someone near and dear to our church family. Dan O’Reilly, who leads the jazz band that plays for us every year on the Sunday after Easter, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Experimental treatments in Mexico have been his best medical option. Our congregation raised $10,000 to help support Dan and to defray his expenses. Our prayers, of course, surround him and his family as he makes this journey of faith.
By now you may well have heard about another transition on our staff. Susan Cadwell, our exceptional organist for the last nine years, has decided to take a break from her work. While playing the organ is her passion, Susan needs to be more available to spend time with family, including travel to other parts of the state. She says that working with our most talented and supportive choir has truly been a pleasure. Accompanying Brown Bradley from organ bench has been a great delight, she adds.
After a break from these responsibilities, we may see Susan from time to time substituting for our services. Playing the organ will always be a special part of her life. For that we are grateful! There will be a reception, hosted by the choir, on Sunday May 27 following the 11:00 service. We hope you can come to the Fellowship Hall to express gratitude for the music Susan has made for us. If you would like to contribute to a Love Offering on her behalf, please do so through our financial office.
P.S. Please note that The Gathering, our casual and contemporary worship, will continue to meet on the same schedule—the first, third, and fifth Sunday of the month. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall at 10:05 on April 29!
