27 Sep Hold That Thought… With Glad Generous Hearts
These words describe the attitudes and activities of worship every time we gather. One of the lessons we learned from Hurricane Florence was just how vital worship is in our lives. That we could not safely come together in the Lord’s house was a strange feeling for many of us. We felt like something was out of place, for indeed that was the case. Of course, most of us spent the weekend in prayer, asking God to protect those in harm’s way. We offered prayers of intercession for those greatly affected by the storm, and for those who bravely responded to their needs. And all of us expressed gratitude for being spared from what could have been much more severe. Today we still count our blessings!
Allow me to make a simple point that may go without saying, but should not be overlooked. One of the things we do every time we worship is make a generous offering to God’s work in this place. Whenever we are unable to gather as a congregation for this purpose, we fall short of our anticipated funds used to fulfill this mission. One fifty-second of our annual budget is approximately $40,000. Please do whatever you can in the next few weeks to help make up this difference. The people we serve in this community are counting on our generosity. As always, you may give by mail, by email, online, or by the offering plate. All gifts are greatly appreciated!
Let me also highlight two very important announcements that are mentioned in more detail in this newsletter. First, the Ordination and Installation Service for Nathan See will be held at 4:00 on Sunday, at the Kings Sanctuary. A Commission from New Harmony Presbytery will be on hand to make this day a lasting memory for our church. That Nathan is being ordained into ministry and being installed as our Associate Pastor is an event he will never forget. I hope you will make a special effort to share this most special worship service with him!
Finally, please note that our church is in the process of purchasing new hymnals for our new sanctuary. At their most recent meetings, the Worship Committee and the Session voted unanimously to order the latest version of the Presbyterian hymnal, Glory To God. This new resource offers many advantages for congregational music, and promises to enhance our worship services for many years to come. With a larger sanctuary (and with our current hymnal out of print), it will take a positive response from many people to make this goal happen. To purchase one (or several) of the 600 hymnals needed, please use the form printed on page 8 or order online through our website. To God be the glory!
