01 Mar Hold That Thought… Presbytery Meeting
What a major undertaking it was to host our presbytery meeting. When ministers and elders representing all 64 churches in our district gathered here recently, First Presbyterian took our turn to serve and to shine. Suffice it to say that all who attended had a most enjoyable experience. I could have not been more pleased with the way the day unfolded.
We were honored to have one our national Co-moderators, Rev. Jan Edmiston, on hand to preach (picture in pulpit) and to share many of the great things happening in our denomination. Thanks to the host of volunteers (worship, kitchen, parking, greeting, etc.) it takes to support this size event, the meeting could not have gone better. A special word of gratitude goes to Diane DeVaughn Stokes, who organized this effort from beginning to end. Of course, everything was perfectly in place thanks to our own Dale Gallo.
Once a year we publish our Annual Report for the previous year. This Report is now ready and will be posted online by the end of this week! Please take a few moments to scroll through its pages. In this material you will find many of the details that made 2017 a banner year for our church. Please note that our financial giving was at its highest level in many years, thanks to your generosity. The other topic of major interest was the construction that continues on the Grissom Campus, and the hope of selling the Kings Campus in the coming months.
Once a year we also hold our Annual Congregational Meeting. Mark your calendar for Sunday, March 11, at 10:30 in the Sanctuary. Whether you come to the early or the late service, we hope you can meet in the middle! The suggestion is that choirs and Sunday School Classes abbreviate their schedules to attend, as well. Our meeting will include the election of officers (biographical sketches are in this newsletter), approval of the financial terms of call for the three full-time ministers (numbers are in the Annual Report), and a report from the Building Committee (with questions and answers).
Finally, if you wanted to travel to Spain and Portugal with our church family and did not sign up, we have two remaining spots available because of a cancellation. Please contact me TODAY if you would like to know more about this April 17-27 trip (843-448-4496).
Peace, John
